Seven species of sea turtles exist today and out of that figure, five can be found in Nigerian waters.
Unfortunately, all species of these marine animals are considered threatened or endangered, due to human activities over the past two centuries.
Sea turtles are also supposed to be protected in Nigeria under national and international law.
This week on ‘Go Wild’, Arise News Environmental Correspondent, Laila Johnson-Salami, rescues a sea turtle from the illegal wildlife trade and takes us on a journey to understand why we need to conserve these animals for the benefit of our ecosystem and economy.
