Spain’s antitrust regulator, the CNMC, announced on Wednesday that it has initiated an investigation into Apple’s app store practices, citing potential anti-competitive behavior.
The regulator alleged that Apple may have imposed unequal commercial conditions on mobile app developers, which could be considered a serious violation of competition law. If found guilty, Apple could face a fine of up to 10% of its global revenues.
The CNMC’s investigation is aimed to determine whether Apple’s practices have hindered competition and innovation in the mobile app market.
The regulator’s statement highlighted the potential severity of the violation, emphasising the need for a thorough examination of Apple’s business practices.
