South Africa has received the first batch of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to boost its vaccination programme.
The doses which arrived on Sunday night will be received every week, with a total of 4.5 million doses expected by end of June.
“The first batch of Pfizer vaccines
have landed at OR Tambo International Airport,” Health Minister Zweli Mkhize tweeted while also including photos of the Pfizer vaccines arriving.
South Africa resumed vaccination using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that had stopped being administered over reports of blood clots elsewhere.
The country has so far vaccinated 318,670 people, according to data from the health ministry.
South Africa has so far recorded 1,584,064 coronavirus cases including 54,417 deaths.
