South Africa Marks ‘Heritage Day’ in Abuja

South Africa has marked its Heritage Day in Abuja, assuring that the country remains a choice destination for tourism and other fun getaways for Nigerians and citizens of other countries.

Diplomatic officials of the rainbow nation said the country is also working to build stronger cultural and bilateral ties with Nigeria.

South Africa, or the Rainbow nation, is one of the top tourist destinations in Africa with a rich culture, one that its people are always keen to put on display, especially during Heritage Days like this one being observed in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

Heritage Day is marked every September 24 and the day is observed as a public holiday in South Africa.

In Nigeria, the South African High Commission has been marking the Heritage Day in Abuja ahead, to showcase fashion, food, music, dance, and other aspects which make South Africans unique.

Diplomats and other residents of Abuja were in attendance and the event afforded those present with an opportunity to have a feel of the culture and diversity of South Africa up close.

The High Commissioner of South Africa to Nigeria, Thami Mseleku, who was the event’s host guided guests through the historic journey of his country.

The High Commissioner who is of Zulu ancestry also entertained guests with some singing and dancing.

The event which continued well into the night, wowed the teeming guests.

Thekiso Rakolojane, Regional Head of South African Tourism, says the country is a choice destination for fun getaways and tourism.

Rakolojane says South Africa and Nigeria have a lot to gain from improved cultural and bilateral ties between both countries.

And a cross section of those present to mark the Heritage Day are thrilled by South Africa and what it represents.

This is a South African event, and one standout feature of their culture is the energetic Zulu dance steps. This was performed by a Nigerian music troupe based in Lagos.
