Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, is pleading with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) not to embark on their planned indefinite strike scheduled to begin on Tuesday October 3, 2023.
Kalu also urged the 36 state governors to distribute the palliatives made available by the Federal Government not by party membership but to everyone in their state.
In a trending video on Facebook, Senator Kalu said “I still plead with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to reconsider their decision on embarking on nationwide strike.
“Anything less than activities to promote the economy would hurt the nation more than ever.
“The budget is coming in few weeks or a month from now. President Tinubu won’t manufacture money without sending the Appropriations Bill to the National Assembly for approval.
“If there is a strike, workers cannot feed; it will affects manufacturers, the stock exchange and every other sector of the economy. NLC should see these reasons…and jettisoned the strike. “
Kalu said he is convinced that President Tinubu will keep to his promises of improving workers welfare once the money is available.
On the palliatives distributions, he said, “I heard that many governors are sharing it through party membership. It’s not to be so. The palliatives are for Nigerians, and not to be shared through party structures.”
