Nigeria’s senate has suspended the senator representing Bauchi central senatorial district, Abdul Ningi for three months.
This follows a claim made by the senator in an interview with BBC accusing the national assembly of N3.7 trillion that cannot be accounted for.
In the interview, Ningi said the northern senators have engaged with some experts to review the budget.
Ningi, who is the chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, said “huge damage” has been done to the north and the entire country in the budget.
“We have engaged consultants to review the budget for us. We have some experts that are working on it line by line,” he said.
“We have seen the huge damage that was done not only to the north but the entire country in that budget.
While the parties called a probe into the allegation, some northern senators disowned the claims made by Ningi, saying the Bauchi State senator did not speak to them.
The Bauchi Senator however, maintained his position on Monday that the N3.7trn could not be accounted for in the 2024 budget.
