The Senate has approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointment of 20 special advisers on Tuesday, following the President’s request to the Upper Chamber of the Senate.
Tinubu’s request Senate President Ahmad Lawan read Tinubu’s appeal to the audience in the upper house of the legislature. However, the potential special advisers’ identities were not mentioned by the president. The higher parliamentary chamber swiftly approved the request after reading the letter.
The senate president emphasized the “utmost urgency” of the president having a team to work with. “Because there is no name for special advisers we will just approve it from here,” Lawan said. “We feel that that this is something of utmost urgency.”
President Tinubu, who was sworn in as President on the 29th of May, has begun to make selections pertaining to the members of his cabinet, as he recently announced the appointment of the Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, as Chief of Staff, while Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, was named Deputy Chief of Staff.
The President also appointed George Akume, a former governor of Benue State and recently-retired minister of special duties, to the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) during a meeting with the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF).
