Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior has become the latest target for the Saudi Pro League. The 24-year-old Brazilian is reportedly considering a proposal to move to Saudi Arabia, although no formal offer has yet been made.
Vinícius played a pivotal role in leading Real Madrid to a Champions League and La Liga double last season, and his outstanding performance has made him a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or this year. Since joining Madrid in 2018, he has scored in two Champions League finals and netted 24 goals across all competitions in the 2023-24 season.
Talks have taken place between Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Real Madrid regarding the potential transfer, but the Spanish club is reportedly reluctant to let their star player leave. The PIF, which owns 75% of the capital in the country’s four major football clubs—Al Ahli, Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, and Al Nassr—has ambitious plans for Vinícius, including making him an ambassador for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 World Cup.
The Saudis have reportedly discussed offering Vinícius an annual salary of up to €350 million ($382.5 million). However, for the deal to move forward, Real Madrid would likely need to agree to a transfer fee below Vinícius’ release clause, which is set at a staggering €1 billion. His current contract with Madrid extends until June 2027.
As of now, the discussions are ongoing, and Vinícius has not dismissed the idea of a move to the Gulf nation, leaving the future of one of football’s brightest talents uncertain.
