Air Peace Chairman, Dr. Allen Onyema, has lauded Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his transformative leadership and urged him to consider national leadership roles in the future.
Speaking at the commissioning of a newly completed road in Sobo, Ikeja GRA, Dr. Onyema described Governor Sanwo-Olu as a leader whose governance style sets benchmarks in excellence and inclusivity.
Onyema lauded Governor Sanwo-Olu’s achievements, stating that if a third term were constitutionally permitted, the governor would be a strong contender.
However, he emphasised that the governor’s leadership should now extend to the national level, calling him a unifier, listener, and leader who brings people together.
Highlighting the transformation of GRA Ikeja and Lagos State, Onyema described the structures and systems under Sanwo-Olu as hallmarks of good governance, setting new benchmarks for leadership.
He attributed Lagos’s sustained development to the visionary foundation laid by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his tenure as governor in 1999, commending Tinubu’s knack for empowering capable successors.
Onyema noted that each governor had outperformed their predecessor, adding that Sanwo-Olu is exceeding expectations and raising the bar for governance.
In his address, Onyema urged Nigerians to prioritise competence and results over ethnic or regional affiliations, declaring, “I don’t care if the governors, president, ministers, senators, and heads of agencies are from the same village, as long as they deliver good governance.”
Addressing Nigeria’s political climate, Onyema lamented the absence of good people in politics, which he argued leaves room for inefficiency. He called on Governor Sanwo-Olu to remain in politics, stating that his Lagos experience would serve as a solid foundation for leadership at the federal level.
Onyema also commended President Tinubu for his bold efforts to rebuild Nigeria, despite facing criticism. He highlighted the president’s long-term vision, which has earned the support of the business community and aligns with efforts to create a prosperous future for the country.
