Sani, Bago, Lawal, Radda, Other Northern Governors To Brainstorm on Security in US

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State and nine other governors from the North-west and North-central regions of the country, have been invited to attend a Governor’s Symposium on Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria.

The exclusive symposium organised by the Africa Center at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), according to a statement by Radda’s Chief Press Secretary Ibrahim Mohammed, aims to address the pressing security challenges in the northern region of the country.

The event, which is scheduled for April 23 to 25, 2024, in Washington, DC, will convene state governors, relevant United States government officials, Congressional staff, and Non-governmental organisations partners across the globe.

Apart from Governor Radda, other Governors that are invited to participate in the peace summit are Dauda Lawal, Zamfara State; Sani, Kaduna state; Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano State; Nasir Idris, Kebbi State; Umar Namadi, Jigawa State; Ahmed Aliyu, Sokoto State; Hyacinth Allia, Benue State; Mohammed Bago, Niger State and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State.

During the symposium, Mohammed said, the northern governors and their counterparts from other countries will engage in panel discussions focusing on the drivers of insecurity and opportunities for stabilisation.

He added that the discussions deepen participants’ understanding of the complex security landscape, identify strategies for addressing security challenges, and explore opportunities for sustainable peace and development in Northern Nigeria.

He explained that the special panel discussion to be facilitated by Tom Sheehy, a distinguished fellow from the United States, will also focus on strengthening commercial business and two-way trade between Nigeria and the United States.

Mohammed further stated that the objective is to explore collaborative efforts among the governors, Nigerian civic groups, private businesses, and the international community to attract investments, generate employment, and foster economic development.
