Russia’s Airstrike on Kyiv Region Injures One, Damages Houses, Ukrainian Official Reports

A Russian airstrike on the Kyiv region has wounded one person and caused damage to residential buildings, a Ukrainian official said.

Russia carried out its third consecutive overnight airstrike on Kyiv, injuring one person and damaging several houses in the surrounding region, Kyiv’s regional governor said on Monday.

Governor Mykola Kalashnyk stated on Telegram that a 37-year-old man suffered shrapnel wounds to his upper body and head. “The person has been hospitalised,” he confirmed.

Meanwhile, in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, a separate Russian attack late on Sunday wounded a 54-year-old woman and shattered windows in multi-story and residential buildings, the regional administration reported.

The strikes occurred as a Ukrainian delegation engaged in peace talks with US officials in Saudi Arabia. Russia and the US were also set to hold discussions there on Monday regarding the safety of shipping in the Black Sea.

The US is reportedly pushing for a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, with hopes of securing a broad ceasefire by 20 April, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday, citing sources familiar with the discussions.

Despite diplomatic efforts, both sides continue to report ongoing attacks. The full extent of the latest airstrike remains unclear.

There was no immediate response from Russia. Both Moscow and Kyiv deny targeting civilians in the war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Air raid alerts were in effect for Kyiv, its surrounding areas, and eastern Ukraine for several hours late on Sunday, according to Ukraine’s air force.
