Russian Prosecutors Label Clooney Foundation For Justice ‘Undesirable’ For Discrediting Moscow

Russian prosecutors have declared The Clooney Foundation for Justice, a U.S.-based non-profit founded by actor George Clooney and human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, as an “undesirable” organisation. The designation, applied to numerous foreign groups since 2015, effectively bans the Foundation from operating in Russia.

The Prosecutor General’s Office claimed that the Foundation engages in activities on a “Hollywood scale” aimed at discrediting Russia, though it provided no specific evidence. The office accused the organisation of supporting “false patriots” who have left Russia and promoting initiatives for the criminal prosecution of Moscow’s top leadership. Additionally, the Foundation was accused of spreading negative assessments of Russian legislation concerning foreign agents and NGOs.

The Clooney Foundation for Justice, known for its work in advocating for human rights and accountability, did not immediately make comments on the matter.

Russia’s “undesirable” list includes a wide range of organisations, from media outlets to cultural and religious groups, that the Kremlin claims pose a threat to national security. This latest move underscores the tightening restrictions on foreign entities deemed critical of Moscow’s policies.
