Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russia will cooperate with any future President of the United States “who the American people will put their trust in.”
Putin said recent debates between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden shows “the level of political culture or absence of such,” and said Russia will not interfere.
“We’re an outside observer, we don’t interfere. As for mutual ferocity or direct insults that you have just mentioned, what can be said? It shows the level of political culture or the absence of such. I reiterate we don’t interfere. It’s all dictated by the internal political process, internal political questions, by US own problems,” Putin said.
Putin spoke in an interview with State Television that Russia appreciated the intentions of Trump to develop bilateral relations but admitted that some of his intentions hadn’t been implemented.
“We have indeed achieved a lot in our bilateral relations. It’s necessary to admit this. I won’t list all the positive steps which were taken to build US-Russian relations, but they exist. However, the intentions that President Trump was speaking before haven’t been implemented to a full extent,” Putin said.
He blamed Trump’s administration for extending sanctions against Russia 46 times, withdrawing from Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, and initiating the process of withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty.
Speaking about Democratic Candidate Joe Biden, Putin said that he has witnessed severe anti-Russian rhetoric but admitted he was sympathetic with social-democratic and liberal values of the Democrats.
Putin also praised Biden’s intentions to extend the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty saying that it was a “serious part of our possible cooperation in the future.”
