Russia’s defence ministry announced early Sunday that its air defence units intercepted or destroyed 51 Ukrainian drones during overnight attacks.
The ministry, posting on Telegram, specified that 18 of these drones were intercepted over the Tambov region, located approximately 450 km (280 miles) southeast of Moscow. Another 16 were destroyed over the Belgorod border region, with the remaining drones intercepted over the Voronezh, Oryol, and Kursk regions in southern Russia.
In the Belgorod region, regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that one woman sustained moderate injuries due to the attack, while a few cars were also damaged. Meanwhile, Tambov Governor Maxim Yegorov stated that a Ukrainian drone crashed in the Michurinsky district, sparking a brief fire that was quickly contained without causing injuries or material damage.
While the Russian defence ministry regularly reports on the number of drones intercepted, it does not disclose the total number of drones launched by Ukraine. Russian authorities also tend to limit the disclosure of any damage, particularly when military or energy infrastructure is involved.
Ukraine has not yet provided a comment on the incidents. Kyiv has previously stated that its attacks within Russia aim to target infrastructure critical to Moscow’s war operations and are retaliatory actions in response to Russia’s ongoing strikes on Ukrainian territory.
