Russia Confirms Damage To Warship in Black Sea

Russia has confirmed that one of its warships, Novocherkassk has been damaged in the Black Sea during an attack by Ukraine.

The strike took place in the port of Feodosiya in Russian-occupied Crimea overnight on Monday.

The Ministry of Defence said the large landing ship was struck by Ukrainian aircraft carrying guided missiles.

Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian Air Force said its warplanes had destroyed the ship.

The Russian-installed head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov said one person was killed in the attack, adding that six buildings were damaged and that a small number of people had to be taken to temporary accommodation centres.

Crimea is internationally recognised as part of Ukraine but is under Russian occupation after being seized and annexed in 2014.

The port’s transport operations are said to be functioning as normal after the area was cordoned off while a fire caused by the attack was contained.
