Russia’s air defence systems successfully intercepted 36 drones launched by Ukraine overnight, targeting multiple southwestern regions in Russia, according to the Russian defence ministry on Sunday.
The ministry reported on Telegram that fifteen drones were destroyed over the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, and nine were downed over the Lipetsk region, several hundred kilometres south of Moscow. Additionally, four drones were destroyed each over the Voronezh and Bryansk regions, and two each over the Oryol and Belgorod regions.
Governors of the Lipetsk and Bryansk regions reported on their Telegram channels that there were no injuries or significant damage resulting from the attacks. Russian officials typically withhold detailed information about the impact of Ukrainian strikes.
Kyiv has stated that attacks on Russia’s military, transport, and energy infrastructure are retaliatory measures in response to Moscow’s aggression against Ukraine since the start of the invasion in 2022.
