The 15th edition of the Rome Film Festival is set to take place between October 15-25, despite the coronavirus pandemic causing cancelations of most other festivals worldwide.
It will feature movies from 26 different countries and the works of 17 female directors, and is set to be a mix of physical events and online streaming.
Opening the festival is Pixar Animation “Soul”, directed by studio head Pete Docter. Docter and fellow director Steve McQueen will receive lifetime achievement awards at the festival, with McQueen scheduled to show his latest movie, “Red, White and Blue.”
However, due to the pandemic, Laura Delli Colli, who is the president of “Cinema For Rome,” admitted the schedule could change at the last minute.
“If there will be setbacks or a guest we were waiting for could not finally come, we cannot foresee it now, but, obviously, we will be very understanding” she said.
Rome Film Festival artistic director Antonio Monda shared the rest of the line up, among which are “True Mothers” by Naomi Kawase, initially intended for the Cannes Film Festival, “Ammonite,” starring Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet, and the Oscar-winning Fernando Trueba’s latest work, “Forgotten We’ll Be.”
Italian footballer Francesco Totti is expected to walk the red carpet at the premiere of a documentary based on his life, “My Name Is Francesco Totti,” by Alex Infascelli.
The red carpet will not be accessible to the public in order to avoid crowds.
