Rivers LG Polls: Nwafor Of Action Alliance Wins Etche Chairmanship, APP Sweeps All 19 Councillorship Seats

The RSIEC has declared Uzodinma Nwafor of AA the Etche LGA Chairman, as APP clinched all 19 councillorship seats.

Uzodinma Nwafor of the Action Alliance (AA) has been declared the winner of the Chairmanship election in Etche Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State, held on October 5th.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Adolphus Enebeli, on Sunday in Port Harcourt.

In addition to Nwafor’s victory, the Action Peoples Party (APP) claimed all 19 councillorship positions in Etche LGA, solidifying their control over local governance. Enebeli further detailed the broader results of the election, highlighting that APP also won 314 councillorship seats across other local government areas.

Other parties made minimal gains, with the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party, Boot Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Young Progressives Party (YPP) each securing one seat.

Enebeli described the election as free, fair, and credible, despite challenges. He praised the large voter turnout, noting that polling stations closed by 3 pm and the results were tallied efficiently.

The declaration of the results was witnessed by observers from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), state independent electoral bodies, and members of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Enebeli explained that due to logistical concerns, the commission adopted a “bi-location” principle, with results announced at the Ministry of Justice Hall in the State Secretariat complex instead of RSIEC’s office on Aba Road.

The electoral process in Rivers State, despite controversy from opposition parties, has reaffirmed the dominance of APP in local politics, particularly in Etche.
