A former Ghanaian President, late Jerry Rawlings had described Nigerian leaders as a disappointment to the black race saying they have more interest in themselves rather than the public.
Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana was on ARISE News and told the channel the conversation he had with the late Rawlings in 2012.
“He said we Nigerians are a disappointment to the black race, that there is no doubt in his mind that we have the resources both human and materials to lead black race to where it should be, but our leaders are more interested in themselves rather than the public good.
“He said look at where we are in Ghana today, that Nigeria should be ten times ahead of Ghana and in fairness to him if you look at the human and material resources at our disposal, there is no doubt that he was speaking the truth,” he said.
Obanikoro also hailed Rawlings for ensuring that the Ghanaian electoral commission was independent and free from political interference.
“You can also credit Rawlings for ensuring a free, fair and credible election which is the hallmark of Ghana democracy today.”
