An earthquake on Friday shook New York City area with preliminary magnitude of 4.8.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the quake was located 7km northeast of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey.
The seismic event occurred at approximately 10:20 am local time, catching residents off guard. Fortunately, there have been no reports of significant damage thus far.
Earthquakes are infrequent phenomena along the East Coast of the United States, making Friday’s tremors an unusual occurrence that has left many residents surprised.
