Rapper Tory Lanez Sentenced To 10 Years For Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Tory Lanez, a Canadian rapper, was sentenced to ten years in prison for shooting fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez shot Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion in the foot following a dispute at a party in 2020.

Lanez, 31, was sentenced by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford after being convicted in December of three felonies: assault with a semi-automatic pistol, possessing a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and firing a firearm with gross negligence.

His attorneys claimed that he should be given probation and time in a drug treatment programme. After the judgement, LA District Attorney George Gascón stated that her celebrity “has brought an important spotlight on the issue of violence against women.”

The incident took place on the way home from a pool party at reality star Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood estate. Megan Thee Stallion underwent operations to remove bullet remnants from her foot after the shooting, which split the music community.

The court stated that he had received over 70 letters in support of Lanez from family and friends, including musician Iggy Azalea, who asked for a sentence that was “transformative, not life-destroying.”

Following the shooting, numerous well-known hip-hop figures took sides in the debate over who was speaking the truth.

Prosecutors had requested a 13-year jail term from the court. Lanez, they argued, deserved a long prison term for shooting a defenseless victim on a quiet residential street and conducting a campaign to humiliate her after the incident.
