Excerpt: Music icon Quincy Jones has been laid to rest at a private family funeral in Los Angeles, attended by close loved ones.
Music legend Quincy Jones was laid to rest in a private ceremony in Los Angeles, one week after passing away at 91. Plans for a larger public memorial are in progress.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Jones’ family shared that the
“intimate ceremony included Mr. Jones’ seven children, his brother, two sisters, and immediate family members.”
The family did not disclose the cemetery location but expressed their “enormous gratitude for the outpouring of condolences and tributes from his friends and fans worldwide.”
They added that details for a public memorial celebration of Jones’ life will be shared at a later date.
Jones passed away surrounded by family at his Bel Air home on Nov. 3. Over a career spanning seven decades, he produced Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” composed award-winning film scores, and collaborated with artists like Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles.
Following his passing, tributes poured in from prominent figures in media and politics. “Saturday Night Live,” where Jones once appeared as a host, honoured him with a memorial photo during a quiet moment of the show just before his service.
In place of flowers, Jones’ family has requested donations to the Jazz Foundation of America.
