Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has devised a response to the ongoing Ukrainian intrusion in the Kursk region, and those responsible for the attack on Russia will face consequences, according to Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to the U.S.
Antonov stated late Thursday, as quoted by the TASS news agency, “I assure you that the president has made a decision. I am confident that everyone involved in the Kursk incident will be heavily punished.”
Antonov’s comments followed a meeting held by Putin on Thursday with high-ranking officials, including the governors of border regions, more than two weeks after Ukraine launched its significant incursion, the largest by a foreign power into Russia since World War Two.
In addition, Antonov, who has been in his position since 2017, warned that the U.S. might eventually lift all restrictions on the use of weapons provided to Ukraine.
He criticised the U.S. administration for its dual approach, suggesting that Washington is like someone who extends one hand in friendship while concealing a dagger behind the other. He described recent U.S. statements about restricting Ukrainian use of American weapons in deep strikes against Russia as “provocative.”
Antonov predicted that the U.S. might eventually remove all current restrictions on Ukrainian weapons usage without careful consideration.
Since 2022, the U.S. has given Ukraine over $55 billion in military aid but has restricted the use of these weapons to defensive operations on Ukrainian soil and counterfire.
Ukraine has reportedly used U.S.-made weapons, such as glide bombs and HIMARS rocket systems, in Kursk.
The U.S. has not directly commented on the use of American-made weapons in Kursk but maintains that its policies have not changed and that Ukraine is defending itself against Russia’s invasion.
