PSNAFSA Mourns Loss of Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja

The Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other Security Agencies group (PANAFSA) has conveyed its condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Nigerian Army, describing his passing as a significant loss to the nation.

In a statement signed by Ambassador Mary Abayomi-Fatile,  the group said, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, a remarkable leader who left an indelible mark on the Nigerian Army in particular and the Military in general, our hearts go out to his family, friends, and the entire Nigerian Army during this difficult time.”

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, until his passing on November 5, 2024. Known for his dedication, distinction, and strategic vision, he made notable strides in bolstering the Nigerian military’s response to insurgency and threats to national security. 

PSNAFSA highlighted his advocacy for soldiers’ welfare and well-being, noting that his commitment to supporting troops was a hallmark of his leadership.

“His tenure witnessed significant strides against insurgents and enemies of the state, demonstrating his strategic vision and leadership prowess,” the statement noted, lauding his professional development and leadership roles across various military units.

The group described Lt. Gen. Lagbaja as a “shining example” of service and sacrifice, whose legacy will continue to motivate future generations of Nigerian military personnel and civilians. 

“The Nigerian Army has lost a quintessential leader, and our nation has lost a true patriot,” PSNAFSA added.

PSNAFSA’s further made a heartfelt prayer for strength for Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s family and loved ones, expressing the hope that his legacy would inspire all Nigerians to strive for greatness. 

“As we bid farewell to this remarkable leader, we take solace in the knowledge that his legacy will endure. May Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja’s soul rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
