Britain’s Princess Anne, King Charles’ younger sister, has been discharged from the hospital after a five-night stay due to a minor head injury, Buckingham Palace announced on Friday. The injury is believed to have been caused by a horse.
The palace reported that the 73-year-old princess, the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth, has returned to her home at Gatcombe Park in southwest England. She will recuperate there and resume public duties when approved by her medical team.
“I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the team at Southmead Hospital for their care, expertise, and kindness during my wife’s short stay,” her husband Tim Laurence said.
Anne sustained the injury on Sunday while walking on her estate grounds. Horses were nearby at the time of the incident, and her medical team indicated that the head injuries were consistent with impact from a horse’s head or legs. A royal source mentioned that Anne, a former Olympic equestrian, suffered a concussion and has been unable to recall the incident.
On Monday, the Palace stated that she is expected to make a full recovery. However, her upcoming engagements have been postponed, and the injury prevented her from flying to Canada as planned this week.
