Presidential Yacht Listed in Budget Is For High Security Naval Boat, Says FG

Nigeria’s Presidency has come out to give insight into the 2023 budgetary provision for what was labelled a Presidential Yacht.

In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, on Thursday titled, “The Facts On The Naval Boat in 2023 Supplementary Budget”, the presidency explained that what was described as “Presidential Yacht” in the 2023 supplementary budget was actually a naval vessel equipped with specialized security devices meant for high-profile operations inspections rather than presidential use.

According to the statement, “What was named as Presidential Yacht in the budget is an Operational Naval boat with specialized security gadgets suitable for high profile operational inspection and not for the use of the President. It is called a presidential yacht by way of nomenclature because of the high level security features.

“The naval boat was ordered by the navy under the previous administration. President Tinubu has consistently said that government is a continuum as he inherited both assets and liabilities of past administrations.”

It also stated that the Chief of Naval Staff’s office presented a committed obligation to the Ministry of Defence, which included the payment request for the boat and informed that the President granted approval for N62 billion out of the over N200 billion filed.

The statement concluded by explaining that The security of the nation and its territorial waters are deep concerns of the President. Under his direction, the federal government is allocating more funds to boost the output of our oil and gas, maritime, and blue economy sectors.

“In President Tinubu, we have a leader who understands the economic challenges being faced by the masses. His administration is working very hard to confront and surmount those challenges. Nigerians will soon get the benefits of the ongoing reforms that will certainly lead to a buoyant and improved quality of life for all citizens.”
