President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Sunday to attend the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, focusing on the current Middle East crisis.
The summit, scheduled for Monday, November 11, 2024, follows an invitation from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
President Tinubu’s participation was confirmed according to a statement posted on X by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy,
“President Tinubu is expected to address the ongoing Israel-Palestinian conflict, emphasising Nigeria’s strong call for an immediate ceasefire and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.”
Nigeria will use the platform to advocate for renewed efforts towards a two-state solution, which Tinubu views as essential for lasting peace in the region.
“Nigeria remains committed to supporting initiatives that seek a fair and lasting resolution to the conflict,” the statement read.
Accompanying the President on this diplomatic mission are senior government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja immediately following the summit’s conclusion.
