President Tinubu Mourns Ibadan Funfair Tragedy, Orders Comprehensive Investigation

President Tinubu has expressed sorrow over the Ibadan stampede tragedy, demands accountability, urges safety measures, and emphasised children’s protection at events.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, which claimed the lives of several young children and left many injured.

In a statement released on December 19, 2024, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu extended his condolences to the Government and people of Oyo State, as well as to the grieving families.

“Our children’s safety and well-being remain paramount. No event should ever compromise their safety or take precedence over their lives,” the President said.

The President offered prayers for the victims, hoping that “the Almighty God will grant peace to the souls of those who have departed in this unfortunate event.”

He expressed solidarity with the bereaved families during this difficult time of mourning.

In response to the tragedy, president Tinubu has directed authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

He stressed the importance of determining whether negligence or deliberate actions contributed to the disaster, calling for a transparent and accountable process.

The President also urged the Oyo State Government to implement measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

These include a comprehensive review of safety protocols for public events, strict enforcement of safety regulations, and regular audits of event venues.

President Tinubu further called on event organisers nationwide to prioritise the safety of attendees, particularly children, by integrating professional security, protocol, and logistics measures into their planning.
