President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, on the occasion of his 71st birthday, which coincides with the eighth anniversary of his ascension to the throne. The celebration, which takes place on 20 October 2024, marks a significant milestone for the Benin Kingdom, as Ewuare II continues to lead with distinction.
In a press statement issued on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the Oba’s leadership since his coronation as the 40th Oba of Benin in 2016, noting that his reign has been characterised by peace, understanding, and harmony within the kingdom.
The President highlighted Oba Ewuare II’s impressive diplomatic career, during which he served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Angola and Sweden. He also highlighted the Oba’s accreditation in other European countries, including Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Italy, saying that these experiences have greatly influenced the Oba’s leadership style, enabling him to guide his people with wisdom and grace.
Tinubu also commended the Oba’s efforts in preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom, particularly his role in spearheading the return of priceless artefacts that hold significant historical and cultural value.
In addition to his cultural preservation work, the President lauded the Oba’s commitment to promoting participatory democracy and offering sound advice to leaders across various sectors, saying that his advocacy for civic responsibility has been noted as a source of inspiration for a brighter future in Nigeria.
As the Oba marks his birthday and coronation anniversary, President Tinubu expressed his best wishes for the monarch’s continued well-being and for the prosperity of the Benin Kingdom under his leadership.
