President Putin Approves Second Russian Coronavirus Vaccine

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday gave the approval for a second coronavirus vaccine.

“Novosibirsk’s Vector Centre (Vector State Research Center) has registered today the second coronavirus vaccine, which is called ‘EpiVakKorona’,” Putin said.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister for Social Policy Tatyana Golikova explained that the new vaccine has been created “on the basis of the synthetic substances”, and is a “peptide vaccine.”

“It’s composed of artificially created fragments of virus proteins”, she said.

Russian authorities said the first trials of the vaccine on a hundred volunteers were successful, and post-registration trials of EpiVakKorona would count 40-thousand volunteers across the country.

In August, Russia announced that it was the first country to have developed a coronavirus vaccine – Sputnik-V -developed by Moscow’s National Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

However, the international scientific community was sceptical about the doses that have been studied for just two months in a few dozen people.
