President Buhari’s Reason to Shun Parliament’s Invitation Baseless, Ruling Party Chieftain Says

The argument of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari that he declined to honour an invitation from the House of Representatives because he does not want to divulge national security matters has been described as baseless.

A member of the President’s party, All Progressives Congress (APC) Daniel Bwala said the president who isn’t a child should know when to divulge privilege and non-privileged matters.

“The point that the president is avoiding to go because he does not want to divulge national security matters, I think it’s a baseless argument because the president is not in nursery school.

“Even people who are elementary, they know when to discuss privilege matter and when not to discuss privilege matters,” said Bwala when he appeared on ARISE News.

He said for the first time the House had a bi-partisan resolution to invite the country’s president on issues relating to national security, the president’s reason for failing to appear before members of parliament will be to avoid questions bothering on his failure to sack the service chiefs.

“I think the reason why the National Assembly for the first time had a very bi-partisan resolution to invite the president is on matters of national security and I think that the one and only reason why the president may evade to go to the National Assembly is that he does not want to answer this agelong question of why the service chiefs have not been sacked.

“I have not seen any cross-section of the country where anybody that I know is not calling for the replacement of the service chiefs, so that is the reason, he does not want to address it, probably he’s not prepared to rejig the security architecture, but if the president is prepared, he would have done so today and appear the next day,” Bwala said.
