Premier League Confirms Only Two New Positive Covid-19 Results After Latest Round of Testing

The Premier League have confirmed just two new positive Covid-19 results across the division after the latest round of testing.

In an update released on Monday evening, the top-flight said that 2,970 players and club staff in total had been tested for coronavirus between Monday, February 1 and Sunday, February 7.

Of that number, only two returned positive results. Those unnamed individuals will now be required to self-isolate for 10 days in line with Government protocol.

Monday’s results represent the joint-lowest number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the Premier League in a single week all season as there were also only two positives recorded between October 19-25.

There have been 23 rounds of testing in total during the 2020/21 campaign so far, with a season-high of 36 positive results recorded between January 4-10.

There has been a notable downward trend since then, however, with the number of new cases falling to 16 the following week before dropping further to eight between January 18-24.

Last week, there were seven new cases recorded in the Premier League.

“The Premier League can today confirm that between Monday 1 February and Sunday 7 February, across two rounds of testing, 2,970 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19,” read the Premier League’s statement on Monday.

“Of these, there were two new positive tests. Players or club staff who have tested positive will self-isolate for a period of 10 days.

“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.

“No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public on a weekly basis.”
