‘Peaky Blinders’ to End After Sixth and Final Season

Hit drama ‘Peaky Blinders’ will end after its sixth and final season, writer and creator Steven Knight has confirmed.

The BBC crime drama has resumed filming after being hit by Covid-related production delays.

Knight said the show is “back with a bang” and warned fans that the mobsters would face “extreme jeopardy” in the sixth and final season.

The unexpected announcement puts an end to Knight’s previous plans for a seven-season run of the drama.

He teased that while the TV series is coming to an end, “the story will continue in another form”.

It’s not yet clear what’s in store for the series, but it’s likely the creative team is considering a movie or spin-off show.

Hugely popular overseas, the show follows the story of Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and his notorious family’s rise to power against the backdrop of working class, post-WWI Birmingham.

Season 6 is written by Knight, while season 5 helmer Anthony Byrne returns to direct and Nick Goding will produce.

The show first aired on BBC Two eight years ago to widespread critical acclaim. Ratings quickly grew from over two million for the first series to over four million by series four and it found further popularity on Netflix.
