PDP Postpones NEC Meeting To November 28, Sets Focus On Upcoming Ondo Governorship Election

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its national executive council (NEC) meeting, initially scheduled for Thursday, to November 28, 2024.

The decision was made during a meeting of the PDP Governors Forum in Abuja on Tuesday night.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the party explained that the postponement would allow it to concentrate fully on the upcoming Ondo gubernatorial election, set for November 16, 2024. “The postponement is to ensure that the party approaches the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial elections with the unity and strength required to unseat the struggling All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the state,” the communique stated.

The PDP emphasised the importance of unity among its members, urging them to avoid divisive rhetoric that could hinder ongoing efforts to solidify the party’s position as Nigeria’s primary opposition ahead of the 2027 elections. The NEC meeting had been expected to address key issues, including the party’s internal crisis.

Tuesday’s meeting included governors, members of the national working committee (NWC), the board of trustees (BoT), and both the national assembly and national caucuses.

However, Imam Auwal, a PDP chieftain, has asked the Federal High Court in Zamfara to prevent the party from postponing the NEC meeting. The court’s decision on the matter is yet to be announced.
