Oyebanji Pledges Infrastructure Upgrade for EKSU, Says He’s Willing to Take Up Teaching Role in Alma Mater

Governor Oyebanji has unveiled plans to enhance Ekiti State University’s infrastructure, including new faculty buildings and stable electricity.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has unveiled plans to enhance infrastructure at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, as part of his administration’s efforts to reposition the institution as a leading university in Nigeria.

In addition to these upgrades, Oyebanji expressed his willingness to take up a voluntary non-academic teaching role at the university, emphasising his commitment to mentorship, guidance, and academic excellence. He made this known on Wednesday while receiving the newly inaugurated Executive members of the EKSU Global Alumni Association, led by its President, Ambassador Seyi Idowu, at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti.

As an alumnus of the university, Oyebanji highlighted the importance of direct engagement between leaders and students, stressing that his government was deliberate in appointing the institution’s Chancellor, Governing Council, and management team to drive meaningful reforms. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transforming EKSU into a model institution, noting that several major projects were currently underway. These include the construction of new faculty buildings for Arts and Pharmacy, as well as connecting the university to the state’s Independent Power Project (IPP) to ensure stable electricity supply.

Congratulating the newly inaugurated alumni executives, the Governor commended their proactive efforts in partnering with the university’s leadership to implement key reforms. He lauded their ability to conduct a rancour-free election, describing it as a testament to the unity of purpose among members.

The governor said, “As one of you, I will continue to collaborate with you to give you every necessary support. EKSU has given us a lot and we have a duty to also promote and defend the university. I am so glad at the achievement of the university now nationally and globally and I must thank the association for not getting tired of the university, even at a time it wasn’t a thing of pride to identify with EKSU, but today we have built what we can call the best brand with the resilience of the association.

“I see myself as your ambassador and like you said I am trying my best to also ensure that we govern in a way and manner that will open doors for all other alumni members to come to this seat. So like I said I will not mind to come and sit down with the students, we can work that out with the Vice Chancellor, to come spend one or two hours with the students.”

Earlier in his remarks, the newly inaugurated President of the EKSU Global Alumni Association, Mr Seyi Idowu, praised Governor Oyebanji’s policies and initiatives, particularly in fostering a business-friendly environment and ensuring high standards in education. He assured the Governor of the association’s readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to advance the university’s digitisation process.

He further commended Oyebanji for being an exemplary ambassador of EKSU, noting that his leadership had earned the unwavering support of the alumni community.
