Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has declared 2025 as the year of accelerated growth in the state’s journey toward shared prosperity, promising transformative improvements in food production, infrastructure, and government services.
In a statewide New Year broadcast aired on Wednesday, Governor Oyebanji congratulated Ekiti residents for witnessing another year despite the challenges of 2024, which began with economic difficulties and insecurity. He expressed optimism for the year ahead, highlighting the state’s achievements and projecting economic resurgence.
“Development in the last one year has been phenomenally exciting, a fact which many have acknowledged,” Oyebanji noted, adding that 2025 would bring massive improvements in food production, infrastructure, and better government services.
The Governor highlighted the completion of the Ekiti State Airport, which recently received a six-month licence from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to commence non-scheduled flights. He described the airport as the “best new year gift” for Ekiti people, noting its strategic significance.
“For us in Ekiti, the commencement of flights at the airport marks a significant milestone in linking the economy of our state to the rest of the world,” Oyebanji said. “Our ultimate hope is to become the agro-allied export hub of the country.”
He assured residents that the airport would test its systems during the six-month licence period, paving the way for full operations from June 15, 2025.
The Governor extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support, federal government agencies, and financial partners. He also commended past and present leaders in the state, traditional rulers, and Ekiti citizens at home and abroad for their goodwill and contributions.
Acknowledging the challenges of the previous year, Oyebanji praised the progress made in security and economic stability. “The year thankfully ended with easing economic situations suggestive of a positive curve for our state and country,” he remarked.
The Governor concluded by calling on all Ekiti residents to embrace the opportunities ahead, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering prosperity for the state.
