More than $3 million has been raised in honour of the 14th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s challenge to target undereducated children in Nigeria.
The initial target was $2 million over five years, but donations announced at the fundraiser in Lagos surpassed that amount on the night.
The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, delivered the keynote speech at the 60th birthday event of his predecessor.
But the gathering was far more than a celebration of a new age.
The unveiling of Sanusi’s latest book and the announcement of his UN Sustainable Goals challenge brought together his passion for making sure the girl child is not left behind.
