Osun State Set To Unveil Transport Master Plan to Boost Economic Growth

Governor Adeleke has announced plans to unveil Osun’s Transport Master Plan, emphasising integration, safety, and economic development.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced plans to unveil the Osun State Transport Master Plan, aimed at enhancing integrated connectivity to drive the state’s economy forward.

The Governor disclosed this initiative during the commissioning of the Osun State Computerised Vehicle Inspection Testing Center in Osogbo on Thursday. He emphasised the significance of the test center as a pivotal aspect of his administration’s comprehensive reforms in the transportation sector.

Highlighting ongoing reforms, Governor Adeleke stated the importance of safety and regulation in the transportation industry. He also outlined measures such as registering commercial motorcycle operators and numbering mini-buses for enhanced identification and security.

Furthermore, the Governor introduced the Osun State Transport Management System (OSTMS), implementing single-ticketing for all commercial drivers to curb revenue leakage.

Governor Adeleke underscored the importance of the Transportation Master Plan, which will integrate various modes of transportation within the state. This multimodal approach, he said, aims to enhance connectivity, mobility, and security while fostering environmental sustainability.

He noted that the plan aligns with the state’s strategic objectives, focusing on land, air, and water transportation to serve public interest effectively.

“We have introduced single ticketing to all commercial drivers in the State through the Osun State Transport Management System (OSTMS) to guide against leakage of revenue. It is equally my pleasure to inform the public that our administration is working on a Transportation Master plan for Osun state. We are focused on a multimodal plan that will integrate all modes of transportation within the state. It will lay our objectives and strategic agenda for land, air and water transportation.

“The plan is to regulate, plan and develop an efficient and well-integrated transport system that will serve the public interest, enhance mobility, and deliver a secure and environmentally friendly Public Transportation System in different areas across Osun. The plan is central to our five-point agenda as it focuses on connectivity within and outside the state. Osun is centrally located in the heart of Yorubaland; hence our transport plan and policies must enhance linkage on trans-national level. As we eye being the transport hub for the Yoruba heartland, a transportation master plan will deepen our overall focus on deepening the agro-industrial base of our dear State.”

During the commissioning ceremony, the Governor directed the Ministry of Transportation to expedite work on the Transportation Master Plan, emphasising its importance in achieving the state’s development goals.

Earlier, Commissioner for Transportation, Ephraim Ayodele, assured the public of the ministry’s commitment to partnering with the private sector for the efficient management of the testing center.

The event witnessed the presence of members of the State Executive Council, signifying the government’s commitment to advancing transportation infrastructure and safety standards in Osun State.
