In a significant move aimed at modernising Osun State’s digital landscape, the State Executive Council, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, has approved a newly reviewed policy on science, technology, and innovation.
This development is seen as a major step towards positioning Osun as a hub for technological advancement and economic growth. This approval is part of a broader agenda by the Adeleke administration to overhaul key sectors in the state.
The Council also discussed proposed amendments to the state’s procurement act, aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability. These reforms are expected to strengthen the legal and policy framework governing public procurement, which has been a source of contention in the past.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, who disclosed the highlights of the Council’s deliberations in a press statement, noted that the previous administrations had neglected to implement a state ICT policy or develop a framework for a digital economy.
The Council’s meeting, presided over by Governor Adeleke, also reviewed the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
According to Alimi, the IGR has seen a remarkable increase of over 100% compared to the previous administration, a significant achievement that underscores the effectiveness of the current government’s financial management strategies.
“The Council resolved to expand the state revenue base without increasing the burden on taxpayers and residents of the state,” Alimi added.
The meeting also touched on security matters across the state’s local governments. The Council expressed satisfaction with Osun’s status as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, resolving to adopt additional measures to consolidate this peace.
In a related development, the Council also approved the appointment of several new traditional rulers and the elevation of existing ones.
Among the newly appointed rulers are Prince Ayodeji Imran Akintola as the Alufa of Erin Oke in Oriade Local Government Area, and Prince Odedire Augustine Olasoji as the Obameri of Odin-Ife in Ede East Local Government Area.
This move is seen as a strategy to strengthen ties with local communities and ensure the administration’s grassroots support.
These appointments and elevations are expected to play a key role in maintaining peace and stability within the state, as traditional rulers hold significant sway in their communities.
