One Dead, Multiple Injured After Severe Turbulence on London Heathrow To Singapore Flight

One passenger was killed and several others were injured on a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore due to severe turbulence, the Singapore airlines reported.

The Boeing 777-300ER was diverted to Bangkok, landing at 3:45 pm on Tuesday.

In a statement, Singapore Airlines confirmed, “Flight SQ321 encountered severe turbulence en route.

We can confirm that there were injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER. There were a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew on board.”

Singapore Airlines offered its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, stating, “Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.”

The airline also mentioned that it had worked with Thai authorities to provide medical assistance to passengers and had sent a team to Bangkok to offer any additional help needed.

Thai authorities dispatched ambulances and emergency teams to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Singapore’s Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat stated that the government would provide assistance to passengers and their families. He expressed his sadness in a statement posted on Facebook, saying, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the incident onboard Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 from London Heathrow to Singapore.”

The exact details of what happened on board the flight remained unclear.

Turbulence, a common occurrence during flights, is usually not a cause for concern. While severe incidents are rare, pilots often communicate with each other to provide advanced warnings. Turbulence can occur unexpectedly, regardless of weather conditions.
