Nigerian singer Omah Lay’s hit single, Bad Influence, was the most searched song of the year by Nigerian listeners on Shazam, Apple Music’s music recognition app.
On its list of the top 10 songs Shazamed in 2020, Omah Lay sits comfortably at number one. He also occupies the number seven and nine spots with ‘You’ and ‘Lo Lo’ from his debut EP Get Layd. Other songs on the list include Master KG’s ‘Jerusalema,’ ‘Zoom’ by Cheque and ‘Vibration’ by Fireboy DML.
On the international scene, the top song of 2020 was ‘The Box’ by Roddy Ricch, with 13.7 million plays worldwide during its debut week alone. While The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ had the second most streams this year, it actually had the most listeners, reaching the top 5 on the Apple Music Top 100 charts in 92 countries, including No. 1 in 62 countries, making it one of the world’s most listened to tracks of the year.
Blinding Lights was followed by Tones and I’s hit, ‘Dance Monkey,’ and ‘ROCKSTAR’ from DaBaby.
Dance Monkey was also the most shazamed song worldwide, “Dance Monkey.” while “WAP” by Cardi B had the lyrics that were most often looked up.
‘Roses’ from SAiNt JHN, ‘Blinding Lights’, ‘Breaking Me’ from Topic & A&S, and ‘Ride It’ were the other most Shazamed songs of the year.
