The People’s Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Saturday’s election, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, on Wednesday spoke not only about his political journey but also his battle to overcome godfatherism in Lagos politics.
In an interview with ARISE NEWS, “Jandor” spoke largely on his fight against the continual issue of godfatherism plaguing Nigerian political parties as he had to battle his way through this when he was a member of the All Progressives Congress, and now in the PDP.
Adediran said his refusal of Bode George as a godfather in the PDP is a major reason for Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour decamping from the PDP to the Labour Party.
He revealed the role Bode George played in the PDP, as well as the how big of an influence godfatherism is in all political parties, in deciding who political aspirants and candidates are.
He described those involved in the practice as a “cartel”.
He also stated that his refusal to give in to the system was what pushed Bode George to endorse the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, despite their different political parties.
This was after his (Adediran’s) alleged refusal to accept the LP candidate as his runnimg mate.
However Adediran made clear to the public his stance on the issue.
“I cannot be fighting one godfather where I’m coming from and babysitting another one in the PDP. It shows we are not standing for anything.”
The PDP candidate is confident he will win the upcoming March 18 election through “structure and numbers.”
