Okpebholo Nominates Oshiomhole’s Son As Edo State Health Commissioner

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has nominated former governor Adams Oshiomhole’s son, Cyril Oshiomhole to serve as the state’s commissioner of health. 

The nominee earned his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and holds a Master’s degree in Public Health, specialising in environmental health, toxicology, and disaster management.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Fred Itua, spokesperson for Governor Okpebholo, also announced the nomination of Samson Osagie, a former national assembly member, for the role of attorney-general and commissioner for justice.

“On the new state attorney-general, Dr. Samson Osagie is a private legal practitioner, having been called to the Nigerian Bar on March 22nd, 1995,” Itua stated. “He is also the current vice president of the African Bar Association (West African Region).”

Osagie brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has served as a two-term member of the Edo State House of Assembly and represented Edo at the House of Representatives, where he rose to the position of minority whip.

Both nominations are expected to be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for confirmation. 

Additionally, Governor Okpebholo announced the appointment of Barrister Musa Ikhilor as Secretary to the State Government (SSG). 

According to Itua, “Barrister Ikhilor has over 11 years of experience in legislative drafting, parliamentary administration, lawmaking procedure and processes, constitutional drafting and amendment, and general legislative governance issues working in various capacities at the national assembly.”

Itua added that Ikhilor is also “active in business, corporate legal practice, and social works, where he serves as the managing partner of Springfield Legal Consult and as the executive director and board of trustees member of the Amana Legacy Foundation.”
