
The altercation between Senator representing Ebonyi North, Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, and a former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili, on Tuesday during the hearing of a Sexual Harassment petition submitted by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to the senate committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions has been met with reactions.
The altercation began when the petitioner, Zubairu Yakubu, tried to speak to the Chairman of the committee Neda Imaseun, but was asked to turn off his mic.
When Ezekwesili tried to intervene, Nwaebonyi who appeared as a witness for Senate President Godswill Akpabio interrupted her.
She then told him to please shut up which immediately sparked an outburst from the senator, who proceeded to call Ezekwesili a fool, a hooligan, and an insult to womanhood.
Nwawbonyi who was on Arise nightly news program, Newsnight to address the sexual harassment petition submitted by Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan and the altercation that ensued at the senate committee, said that he regrets the statements he made against the former minister, but called for disciplinary actions to be taken against her.
Oby Ezekwesili gave an account of the incident on Arise Primetime she spoke with Charles Anyagolu.
Ezekwesili admitted to telling Senator Nwebonyi to please shut up but insisted that the senator was initially provoked before the altercation ensued.
Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan has petitioned the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, to disbar Senator Neda Imasuen, chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. The senator who recommend her suspension.
In the petition, Natasha alleged that Imasuen was disbarred in the United States, by the New York Supreme Court in 2010 over fraud and misappropriation of client funds.
Natasha also claimed that Imasuen relocated to Nigeria to continue practicing law, but failed to disclose his disbarment in his INEC election forms.
Natasha backed her petition with court documents. This comes after she filed a contempt application against Imasuen, arguing that her suspension violated a court order restraining the committee from taking disciplinary action against her.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has dismissed a recall petition seeking to remove Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. INEC cited the petitioner’s failure to provide valid contact information as the reason for the rejection.
In the wake of the tension over the sexual harraamemet allegations against Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, by Natasha Akpoti Uduagan, Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, during an interview with Adesuwa Giwa Osagie, alleged that Akpabio has a history of abusing women.
Atiku also accused the National Assembly of corruption following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. Atiku also addressed allegations against Akpabio during his tenure as Akwa Ibom state governor, describing him as corrupt.
Tunji Disu, the newly promoted Assistant Inspector General of Police in an emotional video, showed gratitude to his mother after being decorated by the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
