More than three weeks after the Santa Barbara South oilfield blowout in Nembe Local Government Area of #Bayelsa State, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday finally ordered the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, to visit the community and ascertain the level of damage caused by the oil spill.
This came as the Ministry of Environment issued a directive for the closure of operations at the Santa Barbara oilfield.
Despite the directives, access to the incident site by government officials and operator of the oilfield, Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production Company, has been hampered by the intensity of the outflow rate from the wellhead.
Idris Musa, Director General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, #NOSDRA, tells us what his agency is doing to stop the blowout at the Santa Barbara oilfield and the remedial actions needed for the restoration of the environment.
