Northern Youths, Student Unions Opt out of Planned Economic Protest, Say Motive Unknown

Northern youths and student unions have announced withdrawal of their members across northern states, from planned protest over economic hardship.

Northern youths and student unions have announced withdrawal of their members across northern states, from the planned protest over economic hardship in the country.

The group leader Jibril Bello, who addressed press conference in Kano Wednesday, directed all their members not to participate in the mass actions scheduled to begin from the end of this month.

“Following our just concluded general meeting, we have reached the decision to call on students to withdraw from the planned nationwide protest.

“This has become necessary because we cannot reach out to the organizers or understand the real motive behind that.

“We accept the fact that there is hardship in the country, yes it is true, but two wrongs cannot make a right.

“That we cannot find those behind the protest and cannot understand why they are planning it.

“We appreciate the government of President Bola Tinubu for providing interest free students loan to support education in the country,” he stated.

Bello, urged the Nigerian government to invest more in local scholarships than foreign scholarships in order to make students’ academic journeys easier and affordable.
