Reports from South Korean media suggest that North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, has left Pyongyang aboard his armoured train, typically used for foreign travel, indicating a possible journey to Vladivostok for a meeting with Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin.

The media reported this citing a government source.

Kremlin had confirmed that Mr. KimJong Un will visit Russia in the coming days.

Also, a US official had told the BBC’s US partner CBS that Mr. Kim intends to visit Russia later this month for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin. During their meeting, the two leaders are expected to explore the potential for North Korea to supply weapons to assist Russia in its conflict in Ukraine.

His trip to Vladivostok is anticipated to last a full day.

Spokesperson for the National Security Council, John Kirby, had said that Russia’s Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, attempted to persuade North Korea to supply artillery ammunition to Russia during his recent trip to North Korea.

Mr. Kirby additionally mentioned that the United States (US) would respond, which may involve implementing sanctions, should North Korea provide weapons to Russia.
