Razom for Ukraine, a US-based nonprofit organisation providing medical and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, has publicly praised President Donald Trump for his role in securing the release of American citizen Ksenia Karelina, who was unjustly held in Russian captivity for over a year.
Karelina was arrested by Russian authorities in February 2023 after reportedly donating to the nonprofit organisation.
In a statement issued Thursday, Razom for Ukraine expressed deep gratitude for Trump’s direct efforts and leadership in bringing Karelina home.
“We extend our gratitude to President Donald Trump and his team for working to secure Karelina’s release,” said Dora Chomiak, CEO of Razom for Ukraine.
“President Trump has pledged that he will leave no American behind, and our team congratulates him for delivering on that promise today.
“We are overjoyed to learn that Ksenia Karelina is returning home,” said Chomiak. “Her detention was a blatant attack on the freedoms that Americans cherish and Ukrainians continue to fight for.”
Razom emphasised that while Karelina’s release marks a significant victory, it is not the end of the fight.
“We’re incredibly grateful that she is free—but the work will not end until all Americans and Ukrainians held unjustly in Russian captivity are released and Russia’s ambitions to destroy and conquer Ukraine are defeated,” Chomiak added.
The organisation further stated that it had remained in close contact with US authorities throughout Karelina’s imprisonment and vowed to continue advocating for the freedom and rights of those targeted for standing in solidarity with Ukraine.
