Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated his country’s commitment to ending the war, stating that Ukraine is “ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer.”
In a statement posted on X, Zelensky stressed that “none of us wants an endless war,” emphasising that “nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians.”
He also signaled his willingness to work with former US President Donald Trump, saying, “My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.”
His comments come in the wake of a contentious meeting with Trump last Friday, which Zelensky described as “regrettable” and not going “the way it was supposed to.”
Zelensky’s statement indicates a shift in Ukraine’s diplomatic stance amid growing international pressure to seek a resolution to the conflict. His willingness to engage with Trump, who has previously claimed he could end the war swiftly if re-elected, signals Ukraine’s openness to new peace initiatives.
