President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick says the federation is not proud of owing the country’s football senior players bonuses for national games played.
While Nigeria’s Super Eagles prepare to play Cameroon in a friendly encounter in Austria, as many as six senior team players have excused themselves from the squad due to injuries, putting Friday’s game at risk.
Victor Osimhen, Simy Nwankwo, Frank Onyeka, Ola Aina, Samson Tijani and Tyronne Ebuehi are the six players that have pulled out citing injury concerns.
There’s however a feeling of resentment in the squad over unpaid salaries.
Reports suggest that Coach Rohr has not been paid for six months, while Alloy Agu is owed 22 months of allowances.
The players have also not been paid the bonuses for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Mr Pinnick however told ARISE News on Wednesday that no Nigerian player survives on national team bonuses, as the national team adds value to the players.
He also noted that a lot of circumstances in the last two years have hindered the federation from meeting some of its obligations.
